ClearContext Disappeared

Postby davidparva » Mon May 22, 2006 10:34 am

I installed the trail version of ClearContext IMS and it simply disappeared after using it for a month. I assumed that the trail version was over and I purchased the IMS program and it will not install or run. It is as if it is already installed. I am runnign Outlook 2003 and I tried checking the Advanced Options tab underneath Tools/Others. When I try to get the Clear Context to work again by checking it under the COM addins and I restart Outlook it gives me an error.

Help...I really enjoyed Clear Context and now it is gone.

Try this from our FAQ:

http://www.clearcontext.com/faq.html#reenable

The ClearContext Add-in has become disabled (or is not loading), how do I re-enable?
If Outlook terminated during operation, the ClearContext add-in could be disabled. The first step is to restart Outlook and see if that fixes the problem. If this does not work, follow the instructions below to re-enable:

1. In Outlook 2003 and 2002 (XP), Select Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled Items and select the checkbox next to add-in:clearmail.dll.
2. If this doesn't work, in all Outlook versions, Select Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options... > COM Add-Ins... and ensure the box next to ClearContext is checked.

Brad-
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried the FAQ solution, but it did not help. After I click the box...and restart outlook it errors out.

David - I want to get this working for you, so please bear with me as we troubleshoot.

Just to be clear, you also tried re-enabling via the Outlook About screen? The behavior you describe sounds like you're trying to re-enable under COM Add-ins but the product is still disabled under Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled Items.

If CC is not disabled there, does the Operation Failed error message you received cause Outlook to crash or do you receive a pop-up that you can clear?

I'd like to ask that you try uninstalling ClearContext via Add/Remove Programs. Then, open Outlook, make sure it is working, and doublecheck both Disabled Items and COM Add-ins to ensure there are no entries for CC. Finally, try a re-install.

Please let me know if this helps.

Next steps

Postby davidparva » Mon May 22, 2006 12:21 pm

Brad-
I tried to uninstall and it worked...including removing the COM ADDIN's option for CC. I reinstalled the program and then it was not running or checked in COM ADDIN's. When I checked it, closed out of Outlook and started again...it gave me the "Operation Failed Error" again.

What do you suggest next?

All - to close out this issue... I worked with David offline. The issue was due to a corrupt install. If you experience a similar problem, send an email to support @ clearcontext dot com and I will give instructions for fixing the issue.
