File Message doesn't work on message in Search results

Postby jam » Mon Mar 21, 2011 3:25 pm

In Outlook 2010, performing a search for an e-mail and then using File Msg doesn't change project associated to that e-mail and move it. As a workaround, opening the e-mail and using File Msg does work.

Note: Projects taken from the folder hierarchy in a separate personal folders in a file folder hierarchy. The e-mails are from Exchange account.

1. In the search bar, perform a query that results in several e-mails that have been filed in a project(s)
2. Highlight an e-mail
3. Use the File Msg pull-down to select another project to file the message.

Notice that the project isn't changed when returning to the query result list.

For the workaround, open the e-mail above, use File Msg to select another project. Close the e-mail and notice the e-mail is now filed on the new project folder.

This is working in our labs as expected. When you file from a Search folder, the message is not moved from the results list until it is refreshed. However, the project is updated. If you have turned off project to category synchronization, you may have to click off/on the message before the File Msg button reflects the new assignment.

Is this the behavior you are seeing?
