Move project fails to move e-mail message

Postby jam » Mon Mar 14, 2011 12:50 pm

Attempts to move the contents of a Project folder fail. Steps taken

1. Used the Dashboard to select an existing project to move.
2. Selected Folder to the contents are visible. It showed one e-mail message.
3. From the Actions pull-down, selected Move Project.
4. Entered new project name in dialog.
5. Pop-up reported the e-mail, tasks, appointments, etc. were moved.

Selected the new project but there was nothing in that folder.

Returned to the original folder and the original e-mail was listed but with the new project in the category listing.

I expected the e-mail in the old project to be moved into the new project folder and the old project folder to be deleted.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers,

ClearContext does not move the contents of the original project folder to the new project folder. You must move these manually.

Thanks for the quick reply.

However, is there a philosophy on projects that I'm missing?

Throughout the ClearContext user guide, e-mails are assigned to projects by filing them into folders. The two seem tied.

Assuming that's true, it follow that "moving" a project would move the contents of the old project to the new.

Thanks for clarifying.

For this function we could not assume that the customer required the folder to be renamed and/or messages to be removed.

OK. Suggest for a future version, make it optional to physically move the contents of the old project folder to the new one and remove (delete) the old one. Not sure what would else would be meant by "move project". Having an option would satisfy the various conceptual views of what "move" means.

Alternatively create a command called "rename project" to cover the above.

I agree...if I see an action that says "move project", then I assume by clicking on that, it will indeed move what I have just clicked into the new project that I selected. If this isn't a function that is possible, then it is very confusing to offer that as an option.

There should simply be an option "Move emails?" to check.

The only time I have to use this function is when I've moved or renamed a folder, and I have to get my tasks/reminders/appointments to change to the new Project name. Which is itself a problem.
