Prioritization Issues

Postby rbird » Thu Apr 16, 2009 2:24 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to make all incoming messages have the default normal priority, with a high priority to only select users. I find my inbox a rainbow with the current settings. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

ClearContext prioritizes message conversations on a variety of factors including sender, conversation participation and whether or not the message was sent directly to you. Contact Priority acts as a priority floor for messages. When a message arrives from a sender that is marked High Priority, we ensure that all messages in that conversation are marked High Priority or better. So, if you set most of your contact priorities to Normal and a few to high or very high, in most cases you will see the behavior you are looking for.

The value that ClearContext adds is that, in addition to looking at the sender, we also look at how directly the message was sent to you, whether or not you have replied to this particular conversation, etc. to see whether we need to boost the conversation's priority higher than the floor set by the contact priority.

For example, your co-worker has a contact priority of Normal. He sends you two messages:

1. The first message is a broadcast email to everyone in your unit about cake in the break room. You're one of 100 people on the CC list. The message appears as Normal priority.

2. The second message is a direct reply to you regarding some proposal information that you previously asked for. ClearContext recognizes that, because this message is a reply and it is sent directly to you, it is more important than message #1. The priority is automatically increased to High or Very High.
