Topic categories not applied when creating new task

I've noticed that if I apply a topic to a task that I'm creating from scratch, the topic category does not get applied to the task. If I then re-open the task, un-assign the topic, then re-assign it, it works.

I'm not seeing this behavior. Can you describe in more detail (i.e. step by step, what screen you start from, etc..)? Thanks.
