Upgrading to Office 2010

[ClearContext Support]

If you are upgrading your PC to Office 2010, we suggest the following process:

1. Uninstall ClearContext
2. Upgrade to 2010 x86 (CC supports 32bit only at the time of this post)
3. Reinstall ClearContext

In some cases, upgrading to 2010 with ClearContext installed results in the following error when opening email:

The form region "ClearContext.RelatedView" cannot be opened. An add-in returned an error while loading the form region storage. The return type must be a path to the form region storage file or the contents of the form region storage.

This issue is likely caused by the presence of the add-in component Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies. Remove it via Windows Control Panel to eliminate the issue.

The following error may also occur at startup:

A form region cannot be opened. The form region manifest contains invalid XML.

Resolve by disabling show add-in user interface errors. See this post for more detail.


Option 2 - An alternate fix for both errors removes MessageContext from messages, tasks and appointments.

1. Follow directions here to remove registry pointers to MessageContext
2. Open File > Options > Advanced, page down to the Developers section and de-select "Show add-in user interface errors"

You may need to re-run Option 2 if the errors return after a future ClearContext upgrade.

I experienced the same "ClearContext.RelatedView" error. I followed the instructions for Option 1 but the error persisted. Option 2 is working, although the messagecontext is no longer functional.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit, but the Office 2010 32-bit version.

Thanks for the additional detail. We are investigating the issue, but do not have another workaround at this time.

I just upgraded to office 2010. Everything seems fine but the messagecontext is not working. Any updates or work arounds?

MessageContext should work with Outlook 2010. Go to ClearContext > Options > UI/Toolbar and ensure that it is enabled. If you are receiving a specific error message, try searching the forums for that message for a solution.

A group of us is stuck without MessageContext after upgrading to Office 2010. No fixseems to be in sight yet, but be advised that the current workarounds might not work in all cases.

I am running XP 32 bit. I uninstalled Clearcontext and reinstalled. No changes. Messagecontext is not shown in the message or message preview.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We have been unable to replicate the specific combination of upgrade steps that results in MessageContext not functioning.

We've seen this in a handful of instances where people have upgraded from Outlook 2007 with ClearContext installed to Outlook 2010. To be safe, we recommend uninstalling ClearContext first before upgrading to 2010.

We are continuing to look into this issue and hope to figure out how to re-enable MessageContext for those in this situation. Unfortunately we can't provide an expected timeframe until we are able to reliably reproduce it here.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that I'm also missing MessageContext. I was running Outlook 2007 and upgraded to 2010 with ClearContext installed. I've since uninstalled and reinstalled ClearContext to no avail.

I'm running Windows 7 with Office 2010 32-bit. I'd be happy to provide any other system details that would be helpful.

MessageContext was one of my primary reasons for using ClearContext. I hope to get it back soon!

Yes, it's definitely enabled in the Options.

I've done various gyrations of disabling and restarting Outlook to try to get it back but to no avail.

I tried some additional things and was able to fix my problem. I uninstalled the following applications and MessageContext started working on the next Outlook start (no uninstalling, reinstalling of Office or ClearContext):

• Microsoft Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook
• Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
• Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007

Unfortunately, I didn't test to see if MessageContext worked after each item was uninstalled, so I don't know which one exactly was the culprit. But maybe this will help someone else and they can identify for us which is the problem.
